Why go to the Caribbean when Formentera exists?

Huge white sand beaches and turquoise waters surrounded by Mediterranean forests, endless sunsets or crossroads. We will reveal to you why Formentera is a sure hit, with nothing to envy to destinations like the Caribbean or the Maldives.

Ses Illetes beach in Formentera has more than 450 metres of white sand bathed by crystal-clear waters, in an unforgettable turquoise landscape dotted with five islets: Illa de Tramuntana, Illa des Forn, Escull des Pou, Illa Redona and Escull d’en Palla. This immense beach, located in the Ses Salines Natural Park, has been listed as one of the most beautiful in the world on several occasions.

If we head south, after crossing a leafy forest of junipers and a carefully tended line of dunes, we come to the marvellous Cavall d’en Borràs beach: a haven of peace with clear waters and posidonia meadows overlooking the magical islets of es Vedrá and es Vedranell.

In third place, another spot that makes Formentera a unique destination is Cala Saona: a small beach surrounded by cliffs that, with its sunset, puts the perfect finishing touch to any wonderful day on the island.

Beyond sand and sea tourism, Formentera has a cultural heritage that includes emblematic defence towers and lighthouses. The lighthouse of La Mola, the most distinctive on the island, is located at the most easterly point, while at the other end, looking towards the African coast, we can visit the lighthouse of Cap de Barbaria, known to many for the film starring Paz Vega, “Lucia y el Sexo” (“Sex and Lucia”). Houses, mills, cisterns and wells characterise this unique landscape.

Along with all this, the main town of the island, Sant Francesc Xavier, the small Sant Ferran de ses Roques, which in the seventies gathered hippies and bohemians, or the quiet Pilar de la Mola, are urban centres that offer visitors craft markets, beautiful churches and squares and the best gastronomy of the Balearic Islands.
