Family plans in Formentera

Although it may not be the first destination which comes to mind when travelling with children, spending a holiday in Formentera with the family is one of the best experiences you can have.

The island is wonderful at any time of the year as each season has a different charm.

If you are looking to enjoy its spectacular beaches and its stunning blue sea with some calm and quiet, then the months of May, June and October are ideal. And if you can only travel during the school holidays then all the family can have a great time in Formentera.

Getting to Formentera is easy, in half an hour by ferry from Ibiza you’ll arrive at the port of La Savina where we recommend that you rent a car to get to your accommodation and make the most of your stay.

Once there you have many different options for a family holiday, these are just some of them:

Cycling tours

Formentera has more than 12 different cycling routes for cycling of different degrees of difficulty so you’re sure to find the one that best fits the characteristics of the family. Going on a bike tour is a great way to enjoy the island’s landscapes with its pirate defense towers that make the children’s imagination fly. Through the trails, you can see a great variety of birds, vegetation, sand dunes that will bring you closer to nature at each pedalling.

Horse riding

If you like horseback riding, you are in luck because in Formentera you can enjoy a family day walking through trails between trees and spectacular views while you practise sports. There are several stalls and stables where you can find the most suitable mounts to the excursion you’ve planned.

Cap de Barbaria

It is the southernmost point of the island and a place you can’t miss. It’s a lovely drive up there, admiring the reefs and the waves crash against them, feeling the breeze and coming up to the lighthouse by a narrow path. The children love to imagine all the adventures that can be lived here and the older ones are amazed by the views of the beaches of Migjorn and La Mola.

Water activities

And if you really want to enjoy its spectacular beaches practising water sports in its crystal clear waters you can spend a fantastic day snorkelling with children or kayaking or renting a small boat to discover secret caves and pirate treasures.

And if you still have time you can go hiking to the lighthouse of la Mola and explore the surroundings looking for lizards, the official symbol of Formentera or take a walk around Es Caló to admire the fishermen’s huts.

As you can see Formentera has everything for you to enjoy an unforgettable family holiday.
