What to see in Formentera?
One of the most asked questions when travelling to Formentera is: What to see? And here you’ll find our best recommendations!
Formentera is a very special tourist destination, it keeps its essence almost intact, it boasts spectacular beaches that have nothing to envy the Caribbean and its villages breathe calm and tranquility.
Because of its size and proximity to Ibiza, travelling to Formentera can be a perfect plan to cross by ferry and enjoy a full day, a weekend getaway or a longer holiday.
Places you must see in Formentera:
Ses Illetes Beach: You can imagine a beach with turquoise waters and fine white sand, but when you really get to live it, what you feel is sheer happiness. The beauty of the Natural Park of Ses Salines d’Eivissa i Formentera and the beach of Ses Illetes is unmatched. It was named the second best beach in Spain, perfect for swimming, snorkelling and lying in the sun, just enjoy!
The lighthouse of Cap de Barbaria: It is the southernmost point of the island, the closest to the African coasts (known as barbarians) from where the island was attacked several times, and from there its name could have originated. It is one of the most emblematic places, also for its cave ‘cova foradada’ with views of the cliff and countless sargantanas (lizards) of incredible colours. A perfect place to watch the sunset, on the clearest days you can see the Spanish peninsula on the horizon.
The viewpoint of Formentera: We will find it on the way to the village Pilar de la Mola, at the highest point of the island, don’t forget to visit this area, one of the best preserved places in Formentera where it seems time has not passed. From the viewpoint you can see the silhouette of the island and all its beauty. We can observe the ‘Istmo de Formentera’, a strip that joins two big land masses.
There is much more to see on the island (villages, beaches, mills, defense towers …), everything will depend on the time you have. When you come to rent your car or motorcycle to tour Formentera, don’t hesitate to ask us, you can also check our blog.
Paradise can be visited all year round, but remember it is a small and fragile ecosystem. Let’s take care and respect the environment.
